The 12 South neighborhood, located just south of the Gulch, is a poster child for Nashville’s uncanny ability to stitch contemporary development into the canvas of traditional, historic, and estate homes. High-end boutique stores, hip restaurants, and a kaleidoscope of coffee houses (to suit every taste) have sprouted up along the 12th Avenue retail strip. Idealists, entrepreneurs, and young adults with dreams have been buying up and restoring old houses to set up shop. The neighborhood’s gem is Sevier Park — a large green space that fills with families and young adults in hammocks and picnic blankets on afternoons and weekends. Its swing sets and basketball courts stir with activity as dogs chase frisbees and children lick frozen desserts from the Las Paletas (handcrafted popsicle) shop across the street.
